The company is one of the largest carriers in Europe with around €790 million in turnover per year and establishments in 20 countries in Europe, North and South America, Asia and Australia. There are around 1,700 employees worldwide working for Samskip. The headquarters of Samskip are in the Netherlands and since its establishment in Iceland in 1991 it has expanded rapidly, both through internal growth and the acquisition of other companies. The company's main business is based on container shipments in Europe, shipments in the North Atlantic, temperature controlled shipments worldwide, as well as freight forwarding and bulk shipments in Europe.
